Cattle production for beef, milk, herd effects and, in some cultures, blood is an excellent way to turn low-nutrient density forages like grasses, forbs and legumes, into high quality proteins while improving soil fertility and improving grasslands. The ability to utilize a wide range of native species, which are very easy to grow since they are perfectly locally adapted, is the key function of cattle in agricultural systems.
